SMIT (Studies in Media, Innovation & Technology) is a research group of Vrije Universiteit Brussel and imec, specialising in digital media, communication, and technology. Within SMIT, the DICE (Digital Inclusion and Citizen Engagement) unit focuses on inequalities and power imbalances in the digital age. Through research on digital inclusion, literacy, and democratic participation, DICE aims to foster a more inclusive and just digital society by promoting equal access, equity, diversity, and human rights. The unit combines interdisciplinary expertise with stakeholder collaboration to develop research-driven solutions for societal challenges in the digital era. 

CERTH is one of the largest Greek research centres and among the Top-10 EU’s Research Centres in attracting research grants. CERTH is represented by two groups of the Information Technologies Institute (ITI), the Media Verification (MeVer) team and the Intelligent Digital Transformation (IDT) Laboratory which brings experience in AI for multimedia.

Mediawijs is the Flemish Knowledge Base for Digital and Media Literacy of the Flemish government and imec vzw. Mediawijs helps residents of Flanders and Brussels to use and understand digital technology and media actively, creatively, critically and consciously, so that everyone can participate in society. 

Filmpedagogerna is a non-profit organisation that educates children, teachers, librarians, and the general public in film and in media and information literacy. Filmpedagogerna has developed methods and produced educational materials for several authorities in Sweden and for UNESCO. They are also part of the European Commission’s Media Literacy Expert Group. 

The Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences (BMS) at the University of Twente focuses on the intersection of technology and society. It integrates insights from psychology, business, public administration, and communication science to address complex societal challenges. BMS emphasizes interdisciplinary research and education, particularly in areas like digitalization, governance, resilience, and societal impact, aligning with the university’s High Tech, Human Touch (HTHT) approach.
